Titre:Chaleur et Ombre”.
“Warmth and Shadow”.
Author James Swan “Jalen”.

Cobblestones catch the quiet fall
of evening light
gold slipping into ink,
a hush beneath worn arches.
Saffron light paints the stucco walls,
a final, burning kiss
on terracotta dreams.
The day surrenders its heat
in a slow, contented sigh.
A black silhouette waits,
a pool of night given form,
whiskers twitching, eyes sharp
the watcher of streets
where names are forgotten,
where belonging is a whisper,
not a promise.
Her fur holds the memory of sun,
a secret warmth against the cooling stone.
She is the keeper of the blue door,
the guardian of the shuttered window,
a silent witness to arrivals
and departures that leave no trace.
Does she wait for someone?
A hand that offers scraps?
Or just for the moon to rise,
to trade the tyranny of the sun
for the silver democracy of night?
For rain to hold off
a little longer?
Shadows stretch, long and deep,
merging with her own dark stillness.
Laughter threads through unseen alleys
a fleeting echo from the village piled high,
clinging to the hill in the hazy distance.
A scent of baked bread, of rosemary,
of distant guitars playing a sad, sweet tune
for the tourists who have already gone.
She listens. She absorbs.
Not owned, not claimed,
a sovereign in a kingdom of one.
But maybe remembered
by the old woman who sweeps the steps,
by the child who calls her Ombre,
by the artist who saw her stillness
and reached for his brush.
A fleeting thought in a passing mind.
The last light fails.
The blue of the door deepens into navy.
The world withdraws.
But she remains a constant point.
Tomorrow, the sun will spill its gold once more.
And she will wait again.
